MỘT MÁI HIÊN TRƯỜNG CHO CÁC TĂNG SINH TU VIỆN SERA MEY

Tu Viện Đại Học Sera Mey tọa lạc tại miền Nam Ấn Độ với hơn 1,400 Sư Tăng, là nơi Chư Tôn Đức Hoà Thượng hoằng dương Phật pháp và đào tạo Tăng tài trong nhiều năm qua từ khi được tái lập lại. Từ năm 1959 Tăng đoàn Sera Mey đã hy sinh bao nhiêu công sức, nhân mạng và nước mắt để chỉ được nhìn thấy Sera Mey của Phật Giáo Tây Tạng hồi sinh lại hầu tiếp tục nhiệm vụ tối cao giao phó bởi Ngài Đức Dalai Lama là bảo trì và truyền bá Phật pháp cho chúng sinh và cho tương lai nhân loại.
Ngoài Chánh Điện, Hội trường là nơi sinh hoạt quan trọng nhất của Tu Viện. Hội trường là một sân tranh luận rất đặt biệt của Phật Giáo Tây Tạng. Ta cứ quán tưởng là một sân rộng có nóc che nhưng không có vách tường cả bốn bề và hàng ngày các chư tăng sinh theo các khoa tu học, hành trì, biện luận kéo dài 20 năm qua 13 trình độ khác nhau. Ngang những khoá kết tập biện luận sâu rộng và khó khăn lâu dài, dùng khả năng biện biệt, dùng cử chỉ toàn thân nhầm nhấn mạnh cử chỉ tay chân để biện luận trí tuệ với nhau, các vị sư trẻ luyện đến mức đạt được hiểu biết thâm sâu nhất về Trí Độ Luận, Giới Luật, Lý Luận, Trang Nghiêm Kinh và Ngũ Chánh Luận của triết lý Phật Giáo. Hội trường cũng là nơi quang trọng cho những đại lễ cầu nguyện, những sinh hoạt tập thể trao dồi sách vở hoặc học bổ túc. Mặc khác, Hội Trường cũng đón hai khoá kết tập thi cử hằng năm của Tu Viện với sự tham dự của hàng ngàn tăng sinh để lý giải những giáo lý thăm sâu của kinh luận dưới sự giám định của Chư Tôn Hòa Thượng và các học giả biện luận sư. Tóm tắt, Hội Trường biện luận của đại học tu viện Tây Tạng là một lớp học tập thể, một sân trao dồi khả năng trí tuệ, một trường thi, một nơi cầu nguyện tập thể, một nơi sinh hoạt thường xuyên vô cùng cần thiết. Hiện nay Hội Trường không đủ sức che nắng mưa cho chư tăng vì tình trạng suy thoái và chật hẹp, khiến cho một số lớn sư tăng phải tu tập ngoài trời và chịu kham khổ nhiều trong các mùa mưa và nắng hạ nóng cháy. Tiếc thay những phí tổn trùng tu Hội Trường vượt quá khả năng của tu viện. Vì nhu cầu sửa chữa cấp bách, ước nguyện của Đại Sư Rabga là thấy được những sinh hoạt tu học của tăng sinh được mau trở lại bình thường.
Tu viện Sera Mey tin tưởng vào sự hoan hỷ hộ trì của Chư Phật tử vào việc hoàn thành trùng tu Hội Trường tạo một phước duyên hiếm quý cho sự phát triển và thành tựu tu học của các Tăng sinh. Xin Đức Bổn Sư ban hồng ân cho tất cả chúng sinh hữu tình. Thành thật cãm tạ Chư Phật tử.

A ROOF FOR DHARMA PRACTICE AND LEARNING

At Sera Mey Monastic University, the debate practice is a didactical medium carried over to this day from a long tradition of open and lively verbal exchange and intellectual competition for the student monks. A unique ritual of learning where each precise gesture of limbs and body bears a definite meaning to defend an argument of a philosophical nature. The debating courtyard is for the young scholars the congregation place where they practice extensively the art of debating subjects in their monastic curriculum, refining their understanding and knowledge of topics such as Knowledge and Awareness, Logics and Reasoning, The Middle Way, Perfection of Wisdom, Monastic Discipline and Treasure Knowledge of the Five Major Texts of Buddhist Philosophy.
The mission of the new Sera Mey Monastic University in India is to safeguard Tibetan Buddhism for future generations and for the sentient beings of the world by providing the young monks with the education in Buddha Dharma with the same high standards of knowledge as it did for centuries in Tibet. The debating courtyard is therefore of significant importance to the young monks who learn and practice there during a great amount of time out of their 20 years of learning. About one thousand four hundred monks use this premise all year long. The existing courtyard is not fully covered; many monks have to make use of the open space outside. At times of great gatherings for special prayers the present courtyard does not have enough sitting room for all the monks and the situation is much worse at debating times. Many of them have to practice in the open air and such conditions are unbearable during hot summers and raining seasons. The monks fortunate enough to be under the roof are so congested and crammed that this condition made their learning unfruitful and most challenging. Khen Rinpoche Lobsang Rabga is very worried and preoccupied about this situation, and hopes that the project of renovating the debate courtyard is the solution to this long lasting problem. However the estimated cost is beyond Sera Mey means.
